Brisbane-based SkyNet Aviation, the leading global specialist in mid-size fleet aviation technology solutions, has appointed ex-Queensland Government senior executive, Paul Russell, to a business development role. His appointment will support the company as it ramps up its international sales efforts, following the recent launch of a number of new technology solutions.

“I have played an instrumental role in growing Queensland’s digital technology sectors and supporting the development of several of our most successful and innovative technology businesses over the past 17 years,” Russell says.

“Most recently, I was responsible for delivery of a significant part of the Queensland Government’s landmark Advance Queensland innovation program. So I’m particularly excited to be working with SkyNet Aviation – a local company that is bringing some exciting new technology solutions to the international aviation market.”

While working for the Queensland Government, Russell played an instrumental role in developing and delivering a number of technology and innovation strategies across  information technologies, interactive games, the digital economy, environmental technologies and new materials.

In his work under the Advance Queensland program, Russell managed the planning and launch of The Precinct, the government’s innovation hub in a heritage-listed building in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.

Further, he also collaborated with many regional organisations to unite and grow Queensland’s regional innovation ecosystems, as well as overseeing a large and diverse portfolio of SME funding programs and university research grants.

Russell was also heavily involved in behind-the-scenes planning for the Queensland Government’s decision in 2019 to establish the Queensland Capacity Network to improve broadband connectivity and services across the state.

Earlier this month, SkyNet Aviation launched REACH Aero™ – the world’s first, fully integrated operations management solution for mid-tier aviation fleets. This revolutionary solution is tipped to change how aviation companies around the globe manage their resources.

SkyNet Aviation CEO Jon Davis says Paul Rusell is joining the company at an exciting time. “We specialise in developing innovative technology and Paul’s expertise and understanding of taking new concepts to market will be extremely valuable as we promote our latest solutions – not only to the Australian aviation industry but internationally too.”
